What subjects do you offer?
  • The subject areas of the program are:
    • Reading
    • Math
    • Writing
    • Advanced Math
    • Science
    • Social Studies

 


What are the grade levels that are offered?

  • The program that we offer has lessons that are grouped by reading/vocabulary level, not grade level.
    • Level 1 = Reading levels between grade 1.6 and grade 3
    • Level 2 = Reading level no higher than grade 5
    • Level 3 = Reading level no higher than grade 8
    • Level 4 = Reading level no higher than grade 11
    • Level 5 = Reading level no higher than first year college
    • Level 6 = Reading level no higher than first year college

What lessons are offered in Social Studies?

  • The key components that are covered in Social Studies are Civics, History, Economics, Geography and Cultures.

How many times a week should my child take lessons?

  • We recommend that two or three lessons be completed a week. It takes about 30 to 60 minutes to complete a lesson.

What are the components of the lessons?

  • All of the lessons for each subject area drill down to specific skills and objectives. Each lesson has four parts:
    1. Pretest – questions to test the mastery of the lessons goal prior to taking the lesson.
    2. Tutorial – interactive instruction.
    3. Guided Practice – review questions about the instruction with guidance provided for incorrect answers.
    4. Posttest – questions test the student’s new skill level.

How will I know how to use the program?

  • The first lesson that will be assigned is the Getting Started lesson to introduce your child to the features of the lesson. They will learn how to navigate, answer questions, get hints and exit a lesson.

Is audio provided with the program?

  • Yes, audio is provided for Level 1 only.

If my child is unable to finish a lesson during the time period will the lesson be bookmarked?

  • The program will bookmark the lesson if they are working in the tutorial or guided practice section of the lesson. If they are taking the pretest or post test there will not be a bookmark.

What if my child passes the pretest?

  • If the pretest is passed a new lesson will appear.

What if my child does not know the answer to the question?

  • There are two hints available for each question if your child needs assistance answering the question. These hints help your child from becoming frustrated. The reports that we send will show how many times your child needed to use the hint button.

What happens if my child fails the post test?

  • If the post test is failed the lesson will be reassigned three times. However, we will intervene after the second time the lesson has been failed to re-evaluate.

How will I find out how my child is progressing?

  • Once a week you will receive via e-mail a report to view your child’s progress of the previous week.

How can I find out what lessons are available in Reading or any of the other subjects that are offered?

What if I need to speak with you regarding the lessons?

  • Please call directly at (866-960-0308) to conference about your child’s progress. We would be happy to assist you.

How do you decide what lessons my child will need?

  • A diagnostic test can be used initially to identify your child’s learning level. A lesson plan will be created by deciding which lessons are appropriate based on that learning level.

What are the plug-ins that I will need to run the program on my computer?

What are the technical requirements for the online program?

Does the program support AOL/CompuServe/Prodigy users?

  • Users of AOL, CompuServe and Prodigy should connect to the Internet via AOL then open a separate browser window. (Internet Explorer is recommended.) Connect to the Internet by logging on via AOL.
    Minimize the AOL application.
    Open Internet Explorer or Netscape Communicator.
    In the address window of the browser, type passkeylearning.com and enter your user name and password provided to you by Online Tutoring Center.

How do I register on the program?

  • Online Tutoring Center will send you a form to complete that needs to be emailed back to educationaltips@aol.com. A user name and password will be sent back to you. You will be able to change your password after you log on by clicking on the profile button after logging on and typing in a new password.

I lost my user name and password what should I do?

  • Online Tutoring Center recommends that you write down your user name and password and keep them in a safe place. Please contact us to recover this information for you.
     

How much does Online Tutoring Center charge for their services?

On the site there is a 30 day trial offer? What does this mean?

  • The 30 day trial allows you to access lessons only and an individual education plan for your child is not offered.

How do I know that this is a safe site?

  • The site that your child will be using is COPPA compliant. Click here to read about the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act.
  • Online Tutoring Center will not be able to interact with your child directly when they are online. All correspondence will be with you by either email or by telephone.
